Geotechnical Engineering

 

Nichols Environmental provides geotechnical consulting and investigation services specializing in: foundation investigations, top-of-bank assessments, slope stability analyses, landslide remediation, excavation stability and dewatering requirements, retaining walls, and project management services. Nichols Environmental will prepare construction drawings, tenders, construction budget estimates, perform construction monitoring and complete as-built records as part of a turn-key solution.

We have conducted over 60 investigations since 1999, in such specialized areas as:

  • Foundations for various commercial and industrial facilities, including Albian Sands for ATCO;
  • Frost heaving evaluation and remedial plan for a freezer warehouse;
  • Deep auger and coring to recover bentonitic shale to evaluate slope stability in Edmonton;
  • Slope stability evaluations for residential developments in Edmonton and Grande Prairie, including numerical modeling;
  • Numerous roadways and bulk fuel cardlock plants in Alberta and BC;
  • Retaining wall designs and specifications for residential and commercial developments;
  • Upstream oil and gas facilities in Alberta, Saskatchewan and BC.

Civil Engineering

Nichols Environmental provides civil engineering design and construction services. We conduct site surveys using a Total Station and perform civil design work using the latest AutoCAD and Eagle Point software to design and construct various earthwork structures.

We have prepared civil designs and monitored the construction of over $2.5 million in earthwork projects since 2002, including excavations of up to 88,000 m3 and various bulk plant developments.

Typical project deliverables include:

  • Cut/fill balance;
  • Grading plan to match the geotechnical design;
  • Material volume and construction cost estimates;
  • Tender preparation;
  • Contract administration; and
  • Construction supervision.
